UK boating
The hull shape shows a deep midsection that kicks up sharply at the stern. As you might expect, the beam
has been pushed to the max, and the L/B is 3.03. That's just too beamy for me. The beam is carried to the transom.
Catboats can have a mind of their own, but all that is part of the fun of sailing a catboat at sailing schools. The techniques needed to be a
successful catboat sailor sailmakers can make you a
better all-around sailor. Chines will not work on just any boat. But, if you are designing a very high-powered boat
where the boat will operate at super hull speeds most of the time, you can gain sailing length by eliminating aft
overhang and adding a chine. There are three staterooms with two in the port hull separated by a large galley. In
the starboard hull the owner’s stateroom takes up the entire hull with the head and shower stall in the bow. Aft,
there are two nearly mirror-image stateroom-head combinations. They share a centerline shower stall. If you study
the layout carefully, you will note two ladders aft that fold away against the bulkhead to allow access to the deck
from the aft cabins. There is certainly no shortage of locker space. This boat could accommodate three couples
comfortably and with an unusual amount of privacy. This will be a boat that is easy to own. For me the size is near
perfect. There is no wood on deck so a bucket and a brush is all you will need to keep it shining. The engine is a
sail drive, gas powered generators
10-horsepower Yanmar 1GM10 under the companionway. Tillers are great on small boats. The seats adjacent to the
tiller are removable in this model, so someone could sit aft facing forward if they didn’t mind the tiller cracking
their knees during tacks and jibes. The hull shape is clean and modern with a traditional transom. The D/L is 170.
Beam is on the low side at 10 feet, 9 inches. I like boats on the narrow side. If all else is equal, the narrow
boat is the better boat. There are no surprises for the water. The heeled hull is nearly as symmetrical as the
upright hull. This can produce a UK boat with beautiful manners and steering characteristics. There is also a
laboratory area aft of the galley. The pilothouse has an enclosed computer room, a huge navigation station, a large
wet locker, a pilot berth tucked under the side deck and a mystery bench seat. The long bowsprit allows for a
flying jib, outer jib, inner jib and forestay sail carbon fibre masts to be carried. Both masts carry
triangular topsails with small gaffs at their head. Other features may seem obvious but will be welcomed by serious
sailors, including an easily accessible engine compartment powerboat schools, a deep bilge pump and a one-piece
fuel line between the propane tank and range to eliminate leaking at connections.
The boat and boat covers is built using vacuum
resin infusion molding, allowing for a light but sturdy construction. In keeping with the one-design nature of the
boat, each element of the deck and hull are weighed before assembly. What Farr came up with is a sleek and speedy
looking design. The low cabin house and moderate bow overhand keep the boat looking modern. The slight overhang
also helps the boat’s handicap rating and adds waterline length as the boat heels. The UK Dehler brand is known for
combining the best of the cruising and racing worlds and continues that theme in its new Dehler 32, introduced at
the Düsseldorf boat show in February. The big cockpit is ideal for racing, with an open transom and a wide
trave´ller just aft of the tiller for end-boom sheeting. Foot chocks for the helmsman will help when heeling.
